castle of the gherardesca
Castagneto Carducci is dominated from the castle "Della Gherardesca" whose building should go back around Mille. The Castle Della Gherardesca puts its borders to the north with the other homes, south of Via dell'Indipendenza, west with the Church of St. Lawrence Martyr, and finally to the east with buildings of agricultural use. The walls are slightly tilted behind them and are formed by battlements. If we move to the left of the door of entry can observe the sacristy, while on the right find the door to the castle. The castle is divided into three levels:-are located on the ground floor rooms for receptions and representation here and there is also access for private chapel in San Lorenzo, - the availability of the remaining floors are used instead to use housing. In the west side of the castle is located a large garden and perimetrato split in the church, on the south side there is a staircase and a terrace with panoramic view, in the North side through a slide, accessed both in the landing opposite the facade of the church at the entrance to the bell tower. Among the most important restorations that have also changed the old structure we find that of 1744; 1760; 1783; 1857; 1859; 1864 until today.
